I'd been thinking about signing up for a CSA for two years when I learned (at a meeting of the Jewish Environmental Initiative of St. Louis) about an organic farming apprenticeship through the St. Louis-based EarthDance FARMS, a training program that produces organic vegetables, fruits, flowers, and herbs for a CSA. I applied and am now part of the program starting in March!

Oren I'll vouch for every word re the Hazon Israel Ride. you may remember me from it in 11/09. That was my best trip to Israel (of several more conventional ones). Anyone of any ability, if at all interested in seeing Israel by bike, go4it! You won't be sorry, even if all you can join is that last dramatic downhill into Eilat.

Great piece. My family has been doing week-long self-guided European bike tours over the past few summers. We thought we'd have to forgo this summer as we will be vacationing in Israel in early July in celebration of our son's Bar Mitzvah. But now you're making me think that we could actually incorporate a few days of bike touring into our plans, which could be such a great Bar Mitzvah activity.

Do you have suggestions for an itinerary that would be suitable for July? we are a fit family and used to biking a variety of terrains but we are not looking to scale mountains and have a rather leisurely attitude about biking even when we do substantial distances.

Thanks and kol hakavod.
