Philadelphia

The Hazon CSA at Congregation Kol Ami in Elkins Park began in the 2007 season, the first one in the greater Philadelphia area.  After consecutive sold-out seasons, the CSA at Kol Ami has grown into an engaging and vibrant community, reaching across congregations in the Kehillah of Old York Road and the community at large.

Congregation Kol Ami partners with Lancaster Farm Fresh Cooperative, a cooperative of Amish and Mennonite small family farmers who take great pride in building their soil to produce healthy plants, animals and people.

Lancaster Farm Fresh Cooperative (LFFC) is a non-profit organic farmers cooperative of 63 farmers in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. We focus on creating healthy high quality foods from our highly maintained and enriched soils on our small scale family farms.

Lancaster Farm Fresh Cooperative (LFFC) serves all of Eastern Pennsylvania, New York City, and most of the Tri State area by connecting the farmer and customer, delivering the best local organic produce, value added products, and humanely raised and pastured animal products to retail establishments, co-ops, restaurants, and institutions. LFFC also provides fresh, certified organic fruits, vegetables, and other farm fresh products to households through its CSA subscription program, enabling members to keep local sustainable farms and local food safe for future generations.

The produce sold through LFFC is certified organic unless otherwise noted. We do support farmers that are looking to make their farms sustainable. We also support local farms that use Integrated Pest Management (I.P.M.) techniques. The animal products that you purchase are from small family farms with small herds and flocks. These animals always have access to pasture and enjoy the freedom of foraging through the grasses with the earth under their feet.

When you purchase LFFC products you can be confident that you will receive the freshest farm products, raised humanely, with consideration for the land, animals and people. Lancaster Farm Fresh Cooperative is owned by the farmers working in cooperation with each other to bring you healthy, quality foods.

Community Events

The CSA program includes a weekly Tuv HaShavua newsletter and email from the Cooperative about farmers, their families and life on the farm, cooking classes and demos, farm trip, seasonal celebrations and educational programs, exploring the connections between sustainable and ethical food systems, Jewish values and traditions.

The CSA Share

The amount of produce delivered each week varies with the season.  In May and June the shares are lighter, filled with lots of greens, mushrooms, radishes, and spring onions.  In July, August, September, and October the shares are burst with cabbage, tomatoes, peppers, potatoes and squash.  In November, cool-weather crops like winter squash, cooking greens, lettuce, and root vegetables prepare us and our pantries for winter.  A full share consists of 7-12 items delivered every week and will feed 2 vegetarian adults or 2 adults and 2 children who are not vegetarians.  Members may sign up to split a share.

Share Options

In addition to full or half vegetable shares, members may choose fruit, free-range organic egg or fresh-cut flower shares.
