Toronto
The First Narayever Congregation is a Traditional Egalitarian synagogue located in the heart of downtown Toronto. We are proud to host the first Jewish CSA in the city, in partnership with Everdale Organic Farm and Environmental Learning Centre. With the help of Torat Ha Teva (the Jewish Nature Centre of Canada), we began our CSA in the 2007 season and the demand was overwhelming! We finished the season with over 60 committed members. Now entering our fourth season, we are opening up yet a few more shares, growing to 120 members this season.
The Narayever/Everdale CSA provides fresh, local, organic produce to its members weekly from mid-June to mid-November. Each Tuesday afternoon (3:30-7:00), Everdale farmers set up a bountiful farmstand in our front yard, and members choose among a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, and fresh-cut flowers. There is no pre-packed box; instead we work on a point system so that members can select just the items that they want. At the end of the evening, all unclaimed produce is donated to The Stop, an emergency food provider in downtown Toronto.
The weekly pickup is one piece of a larger project to raise awareness about food issues among Narayever members. The Narayever Food Committee is currently working hard to develop a sustainable food policy for all events held at the shul and the CSA plans to host a number of hands-on activities during the season, including farm visits, canning and preserving workshops, and a harvest Sukkot lunch. Everdale farmer Gavin Dandy and CSA Site Coordinator Andrea Most welcome you to the 2010 season.

Everdale
Organic Farm and Environmental Learning Center
Everdale is both an organic farm and an environmental learning centre teaching sustainable living practices. Everdale encompasses a working organic farm, mixed livestock, a model home, classroom, forests andmeadows. It boasts demonstration models of operating, sustainable technologies and its teachers are specialists in the areas of straw bale construction, solar and wind systems, farming, and eco-landscaping. Everdale runs one of the most successful farmer apprenticeship programs in the province, and each year Everdale’s graduating interns begin new organic farms in Ontario and across the country.
The organic farm at Everdale produces a wide variety of crops which feed up to 200 households through CSAs on the farm and at the First Narayever Congregation in downtown Toronto. Everdale is involved in preserving heritage varieties through the Seeds Alive! Project and cultivates a number of experimental gardens as well. Everdale Farm is run by Farm Manager Gavin Dandy, and Karen Campbell runs the Education Programs. For more information, please visit the Everdale website: www.everdale.org.
