White Plains

The White Plains Tuv Ha’Aretz is a joint effort of all of the five synagogues in White Plains, NY. This provides an additional dimension to our enjoyment of fresh, local organic produce - a venue in which the entire Jewish community of our town can meet and share something special. It extends the cooperation that our synagogues already enjoy in several different arenas, most prominently our Israel Action Committee. We are excited to be continuing our partnership with ADAMAH and to be teaming up with Chubby Bunny Farms for the first time.

Registration is now OPEN for the 2009 season.

ADAMAH

Now in its seventh successful year, ADAMAH: The Jewish Environmental Fellowship is a three-month leadership training program for Jewish young adults that integrates organic farming, sustainable living, Jewish learning, community building, and contemplative spiritual practice.  It is based out of the Isabella Freedman Jewish Retreat Center in Falls Village, CT. ADAMAH fellows learn sustainable agriculture practices by growing more than 50 kinds of vegetables on their six-acre farm.  This organic produce, along with naturally fermented kosher pickles, are delivered to White Plains in a truck that runs on recycled vegetable oil.

Chubby Bunny Farm

Chubby Bunny is a small family farm owned and operated by Dan and Tracy Hayhurst.  We are located in Falls Village in Northwestern Connecticut.  The farm is 50 acres of tillable land, pasture, and hay land. We currently use about 10 acres for sustainable vegetable production. The remaining land is used for permanent pasture, hay fields, greenhouses and barns. We believe diversity is important for the total health of the farm. To complement our wide variety of vegetables we raise laying hens, a few pigs and keep a family cow and her companion. Last year we also planted an apple orchard. The farm is protected by a Nature Conservancy conservation easement. This ensures that the land will remain farmland and protected from development in perpetuity.
