Grant ApplicationsWe are excited to announce that DC area organizations can submit applications for a mini-grant from the proceeds of the 2007 DC Ride. Projects must meet Hazon’s mission to create a healthy & more sustainable Jewish community toward a healthy & more sustainable world. We are particularly interested in funding new organizations and/or projects that will particularly benefit from a small grant. Grants will be made in summer 2007, and all recipient information will be posted on the website soon after. Request for Proposal Click here to download the application as a PDF Background The first ever DC Jewish Environmental Bike Ride takes place April 22, 2007. Participants raise sponsorship monies to support Hazon’s work. The money is also distributed to a number of other organizations whose missions and values are consonant with those of Hazon. The allocations from the DC Ride will be distributed to organizations located in the DC Metropolitan Area. We strongly encourage all applicants
Process of application and size of potential grants Grants are generally available in amounts up to $3,000. Most will be smaller than this. Please take into account: (i) If you apply for a smaller amount you will have a greater chance of success; (ii) Grants will only go to programs and projects that reflect Hazon’s mission (which is listed below) but, subject to this, we will seek to give preference to organizations which have a previous partnership with Hazon. Please note, we will give preference to projects or organizations that have not received a Hazon grant within this calendar year. Hazon’s mission statement reads: Hazon works to create a healthier and more sustainable Jewish community – as a step towards a healthier and more sustainable world for all. Hazon is best known for a series of Jewish Environmental Bike Rides, in Israel, Washington DC, and New York. Hazon is at the forefront of an emerging national movement at the intersection of food and Jewish life. Hazon’s food work programs include Tuv Ha’Aretz, our Jewish CSA program; the Food Conference which attracted 150 participants including chefs, farmers, educators, and foodies; Min Ha’Aretz, a day school food curriculum; and JCarrot.org, a blog on Jews, food and contemporary food issues. (iii) Applications must be received by Friday, June 1st, 2007. Grants will be awarded by Hazon’s board, based on recommendations from the DC Ride Allocations Committee. Grants will be awarded by July 1, 2007, and in most cases monies will be paid by July 15th, 2007. All organizations that receive a grant will be expected to submit a report on their project and how the grant is being used by September 2007. Please use headings as provided. Please do not exceed three pages total for your written application (excluding attached budget).
