The Hazon CA Ride will be held on Mother's Day Weekend, May 7-10th, 2010. The Ride will raise money for cutting-edge Jewish environmental projects in the United States and Israel.
The Hazon CA Ride is more than a bike ride, it is a four-day event that includes a Shabbat retreat, a 2-day Ride and so much more. It all begins on Friday afternoon at Westminster Woods Retreat Center, where we will hold our Shabbat retreat. During the retreat you can enjoy yoga, hiking, study, swimming, sessions on the work of Hazon and our partners, spirited prayer services, and delicious, communal Shabbat meals. All food during the Retreat and on the Ride will be kosher, and we strive to serve food that is local and organic. On Sunday we will ride to Marin, and Monday our ride will end in San Francisco.
I was a very occasional rider that trained for the Ride and got invigorated about riding regularly and will likely bike to work regularly now.

You do not need to be an experienced or athletic rider to do the Ride! For 9 years in New York, new riders have joined us and have had a wonderful experience. If you don't want to ride, we also need about 50 people to be on Crew. The Crew make the ride happen, doing everything from staffing rest stops to cheering riders. The entire event is largely volunteer-run and we are looking for people to drive, mark the route, cheer, set up rest stops, provide medical support, massage therapists, and more cheering. Family members and kids who are not riding are encouraged to register for “Ruach Crew.” They do more cheering and less work but are still fully part of the Ride, and have an amazing time.

Food:
The ride includes 9 meals from Friday dinner until Monday lunch as well as rest stops along the route stocked with energy bars and other riding snacks. All food will be kosher. We strive to use food that is locally produced and/or organic.
Retreat Accommodations:
The ride includes three overnights - Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night. Housing options vary, but include private cabins and bungalows, and traditional camp bunks. If you are coming with family, you will be in your own room with beds for everyone. After you register you will receive a logistics form asking your housing preferences, and we will do our bst to place everyone in the appropriate room types or with similar roommates.
Cycling Support:
Our routes for Sunday and Monday will be fully supported. This includes detailed turn sheets and marked roads along the route. We provide rest stops every 15-20 miles which have bathrooms, shade, water, and plenty of food and energy drinks. There are mechanics and medics on the route, as well as other crew to provide SAG (support and gear) support as needed.
Fundraising:
All participants (riders and crew) have a fundraising minimum which must be completed by June 30th. The proceeds go to support Hazon and other programs that share our mission. All participants receive a personal fundraising page online to use as a portal for soliciting donors. You can use this page to send emails to prospective donors and track donations. This fundraising is an essential part of our ability to grow programs and support local, Jewish, environmental projects in California.
